CHRESTE, HERBERT L. "HERB," 66, of Crestwood, KY passed away May 1, 2009, surrounded by his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and businessman. He was born in Louisville on January 5, 1943, the son of Anne (Schreiber) Chreste and Gaylord L. Chreste, who preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Waggener High School (1961) and Bellarmine College (1965). He was the past owner and president of The Chreste Co., Inc., general contractor. He built many fine homes and remodeled many homes and businesses over the past 35 years. He demanded and showed meticulous quality for his clients. He was a member of Home Builders of Louisville, Remodelers Council, as well as the National Builders/Remodelers. He had a great passion for his Austin Healey and enjoyed being an avid member of the Austin Healey Bluegrass Club, where he was a board member. He was a lieutenant on the St. Matthews Fire Dept. and a Kentucky Colonel. He is survived by the loves of his life, his wife of 44 years, Bonnie Brotzge Chreste; daughters, Debbie Landers (Paul) of Cincinnati, OH, Dawn Bow (Eric) of Louisville; and son, Dan Chreste of Fisherville KY, who succeeds him in the business. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Faith, Austin, Sydney, Zachery, Ethan and Payton; as well as his brother Gerald Chreste (Diana) of Louisville, a brother-in-law, Larry Brotzge (Pat) of Malvern, PA; and several nieces, a nephew, and their families. Herb will leave an empty space in his home and in the hearts of those who loved him. However, in time precious memories will fill up those spaces and we will come to realize that he is gone to be with God in a better place where he has been set free of pain and suffering. The family would like to express the deepest appreciation and gratitude to Dr. John Huber, Dr. Byron Morgan and Dr. Kerry Short. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at Pearson Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Road. Burial will be at Cave Hill Cemetery.
